Triathlon Update

Well, in a month from tomorrow I will be swimming 300 meters, jumping on a bike to ride 11.5 miles and then topping that off with a quick 5K. I hope it's that easy! Shandee and I have been training hard and we have certainly seen progress. When we started swimming I could barely go down and back (2 lengths or 50 meters) without stopping. Now I can go strong for 600 meters or 24 lengths. As far as biking goes, it has been hard to get out there with the weather and all. I did go for a 12 mile bike ride the other day and plan to do another one on Friday. Running was the one thing I felt like I could do before we started this adventure so there is not much to report on that front.
I love being in shape and looking and feeling good. It does wonders for my confidence. It has been a really long time since I have been both in shape and hormone free. I have been one or the other, never both, in the last 3 years. I don't know how much I currently weigh, because I'm not a big believer in the scale, but I do know that the cute "wear when I feel skinny" pants that I had before I got pregnant are fitting loosely. With that said, I am completely willing to give myself shots of hormones in my stomach and butt again, if that is what it takes to grow our family. Even if it means getting chubby. I love being at peace with that. Does that mean that I will blame being over weight on pregnancy and babies.... no way! I have proven to myself that it is up to me! I love the show the biggest loser and I think that the people who overcome the mental battle of exercise are the ones that make it to the finale and ultimately lost weight. Even the eliminated contestants that come back, you can tell which ones have mentally decided to change their lives and lose weight and those that haven't. Once you know you can beat that little voice telling you "I'm tired, I should just stop and walk", or "You have earned a milkshake" every night, or "It's too cold or too early to exercise, I'll do it later". (Direct quotes from my head). Once you have told that voice to go away and you are determined to reach your goals, you can do anything. I have a friend that ran a marathon and collapsed just after crossing the finish line. I believe he had set his mind to complete the marathon, no matter what, and then we he had his body said to his mind, I am done! I have done what you've asked, not a step further. I know when I set out on a run or ride, or swim if I don't set my goal high I will only accomplish what I mentally prepare myself for.
Well, this blog turned into more than I thought it was going to. I just hope that each of you will take care of yourself. As most of you are women and mothers, I know the importance and effect of exercise on our mood, self esteem, energy, health, strength, and belief in ourselves. Go team! With that said, anyone who wants to sign up for another event with me this summer, let me know!

So, I have great news. I'm actually doing a tri on Saturday. Yes, in two days. It was a little bit last minute and I'm only doing the beginner, but my mother-in-law is doing it too and I figured that I'd give it a shot too. If I die, consider this a goodbye letter. :) Inspiring post.

Rin, I'm so excited for you. I absolutely agree about that little voice. I just wish I had realized it earlier in my life. I'm running in the susan g komen national race for the cure in june. I'm so excited to join in the national race this year, people from all over the country come out for it, so it should be exciting. Good luck with the triathalon!

Good Luck my dear! I have to admit that I will probably never complete a triathlon. So I am very impressed and excited for you. And I can't wait until the day I can fit into my skinny jeans again. Not that I am complaining but my belly is quickly growing. NOt much fits me these days. I can't wait to hear the outcome of the race. Miss you!
